From Laborer to Lakhpati: How Chandrawati Parte Transformed Her Life with Organic Farming

Chandrawati Parte, from Bhada village in Paraswada block, Balaghat district, has transformed her life into a tale of happiness and self-reliance. Once struggling to make ends meet, she now supports her family and has become a beacon of hope for others. She steadily increased her earnings and achieved financial independence by joining a Self-Help Group (SHG) and forming an organic farming group.

Establishing an Organic Resource Center

Chandrawati Parte used to work as a farm labourer. Her life took a turn when she joined the Ajeevika mission and formed the Devi Organic Group, which included 15 women from her village. The women received comprehensive training in organic farming techniques, soil management, and the use of organic fertilizers from mission officials and experts, equipping them with the skills needed for organic farming.

Spreading Organic Farming Knowledge

Chandrawati shares, “Through this group, I taught farmers about organic farming and the use of various organic fertilizers. I opened my organic resource centre, where I produce vermicompost, soya tonic, and organic tonic. My additional income has now reached approximately 22,000 rupees.”

Advancing Farming Techniques

Through the National Rural Economic Transformation Project (NRETP) and PGS Portal, group members received advanced training in organic farming. Chandrawati began producing organic medicines, such as Sudarshan Kadha and vermicompost. Using these products has led to a distinct recognition for the farming families of Bhada village.

Promoting Organic Initiatives

The group in Bhada village has received continuous promotion and support. Their efforts in producing vermicompost and organic medicines have been encouraged, and they have been assisted with marketing their products through local fairs, online platforms, and government-sponsored events, which has significantly increased their visibility and sales.

Economic Empowerment

The Organic Group in Bhada village has been highly successful. The members have not only gained financial benefits, with some doubling or even tripling their previous incomes, but have also trained other farmers. Many women in the group have achieved significant financial milestones, becoming known as ‘Lakhpati Didis.’
