“Whenever you run a business, always think of profit” — Nivedita Mukherjee

Meet 46-year-old Delhi-based entrepreneur Nivedita Mukherjee, who is running a first generation sustainable business and making a mark globally.

Meet Nivedita Mukherjee, a 46-year-old from Ahmedabad making waves in Delhi. Despite working full-time, Nivedita always wanted to create something unique in the business world. She is the visionary behind a sustainable, first-generation business that defies convention. Her story is not just about making ends meet; it’s about carving a niche in a world of uncertainty and challenges.

Let’s get inspired by her story!

Crafting Clutches and Conquering Challenges

So, what’s Nivedita’s secret sauce to success? Let’s start from the beginning. It began with a humble garment business that soon hit a roadblock because of space and inventory management. But did she let that stop her? Well, not really! Instead, she pivoted like a boss and set her sights on something niche — customised clutches for all sizes. This decision was not easy, and it involved a lot of research, trial and error, and hard work. But Nivedita’s determination and passion for her business kept her going.

“I saw an opportunity to stand out in the crowd,” Nivedita recalls. “It’s all about finding your unique angle and running with it.”

Roadblocks? Bring ’Em On!

But let’s be honest — Nivedita’s journey wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine. Oh no, she faced more hurdles than a track-and-field athlete. From hunting down artisans in obscure corners of Moradabad to convincing suppliers in Varanasi to take a chance on her vision to create something unique, she cut her work out.

“It was like finding a needle in a haystack,” Nivedita chuckles. “But hey, nothing worth having comes easy, am I right?”

When Life Gives You Lemons…

“I encountered scepticism at every turn,” Nivedita recalls. “Many suppliers were hesitant to fulfil small orders, and finding artisans willing to take a chance on a new venture was daunting .”

When Nivedita thought she was staring defeat in the face, fate threw her a lifeline. Cue the dramatic music, folks, because this is where the plot twist comes in. A chance encounter in the chaotic markets of Chandni Chowk lit a spark of inspiration, and Nivedita decided to take matters into her own hands.

“I figured, why wait for Lady Luck to come knocking?” Nivedita grins. “I grabbed the bull by the horns and started sourcing materials myself. It was like a light bulb moment.”

Mahila Money to the Rescue

But let’s not sugarcoat it — Nivedita’s journey was no walk in the park, especially when the pandemic hit. That’s where Mahila Money stepped in, offering a much-needed financial boost when she needed it most.

“It was like a breath of fresh air,” Nivedita beams. “Mahila Money had my back when times got tough; I’m forever grateful.”

Turning Dreams Into Empire

With Mahila Money in her corner, Nivedita didn’t just survive — she thrived. She invested in her business, expanded her product line, and watched her profits skyrocket.

“I went from scraping by to living the dream,” Nivedita says, her eyes shining with pride. “And let me tell you, there’s no feeling quite like it.”

Nivedita applied for a loan of 2 lakh. When she received the message that her loan had been sanctioned, she purchased raw materials for her next orders, new machines for stitching and beads, laptops, and printers. She set up a nice workstation even before the amount was credited.

“It was like a shot of adrenaline straight to the business,” Nivedita exclaims. “Suddenly, the possibilities seemed endless.”

But the impact didn’t stop there. Before the loan, Nivedita was scraping by with a modest profit margin. But with the infusion of funds, her profits soared to new heights — climbing from a humble 7-8 per cent to an impressive 25 percent.

“It was a game-changer,” Nivedita says, her eyes lighting up. “Suddenly, I wasn’t just surviving; I was thriving. Mahila Money was one of the supporters who kept us going. They trusted us in my presence. It helped us feel our presence outside and gain more customers. I suggest every business take a loan and pay EMIs on time; this will help you push yourself to do better in your business.”

From Delhi to Dubai: Nivedita’s Global Domination

Nivedita’s clutches didn’t just capture hearts in Delhi — they made waves on the international stage. From Mizoram’s quiet streets to Canada’s posh boutiques, her creations are flying off the shelves faster than you can say “fashionista.” Nivedita has increased her product line and started making bangle and lehenga boxes.

“It’s crazy to think how far we’ve come,” Nivedita marvels. “But hey, why stop here? The sky’s the limit, isn’t it?”

From Surviving to Thriving: Nivedita’s Success Story Continues

As Nivedita looks towards the future, her aspirations know no bounds. From hiring a PR team to expanding her presence in the wedding industry and owning her physical shop someday, her vision is as bold and ambitious as ever. With each stitch and bead, she crafts exquisite accessories and paves the way for a future where every woman can achieve financial independence.

In Nivedita’s journey, there lies a powerful message that resonates far beyond the realm of entrepreneurship. “Every woman should be financially viable and able to support herself and her family,” she passionately declares. “Start small; do not wait; today is the only right time.”

As an ambitious entrepreneur and tea enthusiast, Nivedita draws inspiration from her mother, whose unwavering support fueled her entrepreneurial spirit. “Being a woman does not put me down,” she emphasises. “We have the brains to grow and succeed. Don’t wait for the right time; just start. You have to hustle hard and dream even harder.”
